Town Hall History and Tower
Several construction phases can be distinguished at the town hall. It features Gothic elements and volute gables dating from the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. After a fire in 1529, the building was remodeled in the Renaissance style. This sequence brings together different periods in one building: the Gothic forms point to its earlier appearance, while the remodeling gave it its later Renaissance character.
The Renaissance tower is 39 meters high, with 142 steps leading to the top. From there, you can enjoy a panorama of the town and its surroundings. However, for practical visit planning, it is important to note that entry to the town hall tower is currently not possible for technical reasons.
Tomb Chapel and St. Jadwiga’s Stone
The Baroque tomb chapel of Count Melchior von Hatzfeld is located in the Parish Church of St. James the Apostle. It is considered one of the finest works of the “Golden Baroque” of the 17th century in Poland. If you are interested in sacred art, the chapel offers a distinct perspective on Prusice’s cultural history; the town hall, in turn, represents the town’s architectural history. The two places therefore highlight different aspects of the past.
Another distinctive feature is St. Jadwiga’s Stone, a granite erratic boulder on Aleja Lipowa. It has a depression measuring 10 × 17 centimeters and 3–8 centimeters deep, resembling a footprint. Beside it is an irregular depression measuring 2.5 centimeters in diameter. According to legend, the impressions were made by St. Jadwiga and her dog’s paw.
Summer Festival and Easter Market
Dni Prusic is a recurring summer event held in the market square. The program includes cultural and sports activities, dance events, performances by local groups, and concerts by popular artists. The Easter market is also held in the market square every year around Easter.
