Sokołowsko offers several different points of interest for planning your trip: the history of this spa and tourist destination, cultural venues with various functions, and routes for hiking and mountain biking. If you are considering the village as a possible destination, you can weigh these themes according to whether you are more interested in its architectural history, cultural offerings or outdoor activities.

Spa history and buildings

The spa and tourism industry developed rapidly in the second half of the 19th century. The climatic health resort and, later, the Sokołowsko spa became the most important health and tourism centre. Until 1946, the village was called Gorbersdorf. This history can also be seen in individual buildings: the Kinoteatr Zdrowie was formerly part of Dr. Brehmer’s sanatorium complex. Today, it houses a café, a bookshop, a souvenir shop and a cinema. Check the operator’s information about the facilities before visiting.

The Kinoteatr Zdrowie is also an art-house cinema and a place for discussion about film, as well as workshops, lectures and discussions. If you would like to include the cinema in your plans, check the current programme in advance. In Sokołowsko’s spa park stands the House of Saint Elisabeth, formerly the Willa Elsa guesthouse. The artificial Herman’s Grotto is also nearby, in a spa park.

Culture and creative activities

The former spa architecture is also connected to a current project: the remains of Dr. Brehmer’s neo-Gothic treatment building are currently being rebuilt by the In Situ Foundation of Contemporary Art. A laboratory for contemporary art is planned there. As the rebuilding is still underway, you can check on its progress before visiting.

The Dzika Owca workshop in Sokołowsko offers workshops in soap-making, ceramics and candle-making. The three themes offer different creative experiences; it is best to check dates and availability directly with the organiser. This lets you include cultural and craft activities in your plans alongside the history of the spa, without conflating them with the cinema’s offerings.

Hiking and mountain biking

The Główny Szlak Sudecki im. Mieczysława Orłowicza passes through Sokołowsko and is described locally as the region’s most important hiking trail. Another option for an active outing is the Zielona Mieroszów mountain-bike route: its starting point is in a village car park, not far from the Punkt Certyfikowany Roadosno.

The information about the two routes points to different starting places: the hiking trail passes through the village, while the mountain-bike route starts at a car park in the village. If you are planning your trip around one of these activities, you can first decide which type of route is your priority. For finding accommodation, Sokołowsko therefore offers a clear choice of travel themes: spa history and cultural venues on the one hand, hiking and mountain-bike routes on the other.
