Samotwór combines a distinctive Silesian architectural history with an old landscape park and two tourist routes described in different ways. For travellers who also choose a destination based on its historical and landscape themes, several perspectives sit side by side: the Pałac w Samotworze, the Bystrzyca and visible traces of a former manor estate. They range from neoclassical architecture to a late medieval estate.

An early example of rural neoclassical architecture

The Pałac w Samotworze was built from 1776 to 1781 to a design by K. Gothard Longhans. It is one of the earliest rural neoclassical residences in Silesia. Its architecture is inspired by Palladian English architecture and French neoclassicism. These influences give the palace a specific place in the region’s architectural history. If architectural history is important to you when choosing a destination, Samotwór offers a clear point of interest. The late 18th-century construction period can also be linked to the creation of the landscape park: both are historic traces that shape the local character.

A park landscape by the Bystrzyca

A landscape park of about 3 ha surrounds the palace. It was laid out in the late 18th century and preserves older trees. The Pałac stands on an artificially raised area of land in a bend of the Bystrzyca. Together with a small landscape park, it forms a picturesque ensemble. Thus, Samotwór brings together a palace, river landscape and park within a compact area; you can consider the history of the building in relation to its landscape setting. The approximate area gives you an idea of the park’s size without defining its boundaries more precisely.

An older trace in the central part of the village

The site of a late medieval manor estate in the central part of the village marks another historical period. An oval mound, the remains of the former masonry estate, is visible there. Its base measures about 40 × 45 m. Unlike the neoclassical palace, this mound points to a much older estate. This offers an additional historical perspective for your trip planning: Samotwór can be associated not only with an 18th-century residence but also with a medieval manor estate. Its visible form and approximate dimensions make this trace tangible, without confusing it with the palace or the park.

Two tourist routes through Samotwór

The routes also have different geographical emphases. The green-marked tourist route passes through Samotwór and connects Kąty Wrocławskie with Leśnica (Wrocław), Mrozów, Środa Śląska, Lubiąż and Wołów. The yellow-marked route also passes through the village, but is described by a different sequence of places: it runs from Brzezinka Średzka through the western part of Wrocław and the municipalities of Kąty Wrocławskie, Żórawina and Czernica to the vicinity of Jezioro Panieńskie.

Within the municipality of Kąty Wrocławskie, the yellow route also passes through Skałka, Kębłowice, Smolec, Jaszkotle and Pietrzykowice. The green route connects Kąty Wrocławskie with Leśnica (Wrocław), Mrozów, Środa Śląska, Lubiąż and Wołów; the description of the yellow route lists a sequence from Brzezinka Średzka through the western part of Wrocław to the vicinity of Jezioro Panieńskie. If you would like to include one of the routes in your plans, check its availability in advance; this may change.

When choosing a destination, you can weigh these themes separately: architectural history, parkland, the older settlement trace or a tourist route through the village. Samotwór thus offers specific points of interest for planning a trip, without combining the different historic sites and routes into a single attraction.
