Sulistrowice: Reservoir, hiking trails and local history

Sulistrowice is located by Zalew Sulistrowicki, a picturesque reservoir within the municipality of Sobótka and Ślężański Landscape Park. The waterside scenery, hiking trails and historical landmarks give the area a range of things to explore. To get your bearings, it is worth looking at the paths around the reservoir as well as the church, old lime trees and memorial sites in and south of Sulistrowice.

The reservoir and surrounding trails

The area around Zalew Sulistrowicki offers opportunities for walking, cycling and fishing. Swimming is prohibited in the bathing area. Hiking and cycling trails run right alongside the reservoir and lead, among other places, to Ślęża, Wieżyca and Rezerwat Góra Radunia. Two routes with different starting points

A red-marked hiking trail runs through Sulistrowice and leads from Łagiewniki via Ślęża to Sobótka. Another route leads from Zalew Sulistrowicki to Ślęża. The distinction is useful for planning: the first route connects Łagiewniki and Sobótka, while the second starts at the reservoir and ends at the mountain. Church, lime trees and memorial sites

The village is home to the Neo-Gothic parish Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Najświętszego Serca Pana Jezusa), built in 1932. Neo-Gothic refers to the later revival of Gothic forms; the church itself dates from the 20th century. The building thus combines a historical architectural style with a specific construction date.

A historic avenue of small-leaved lime trees stands at ulica Jagiellońska 2–2A. The trees are described as more than 140 years old and 25 to 30 metres tall. A monumental English oak, known as dąb szubieniczny, also stands at the entrance to the village. Its stated trunk circumference is 4.6 metres; this measurement may change over time. The avenue and the oak add distinctive landscape features alongside the buildings and memorial sites.

South of Sulistrowice, an obelisk stands in the Wzgórza Oleszeńskie hills at an elevation of 382 metres. It commemorates the Lützow Corps’ fight against Napoleonic troops in 1813. The church and obelisk refer to different periods: the church was built in 1932, while the obelisk keeps alive the memory of an event from 1813. Together with the notable trees, these sites give Sulistrowice a blend of architectural history, natural features and historical remembrance.
