Witnica: Park, Military History and Brewing Culture
Accommodation in Witnica
Witnica brings together a range of cultural themes and a signposted riding trail through the municipality. At its heart is the Park Drogowskazów i Słupów Milowych Cywilizacji, which covers more than 7 hectares and lies directly beside the Witna stream. Other attractions include collections on Polish military history, a brewing museum and a Neo-Gothic parish church with Neo-Romanesque elements. This gives you specific points of interest to consider when planning a trip focused on culture and history.
The Park and Polish Military History
The Park Drogowskazów i Słupów Milowych Cywilizacji covers more than 7 hectares in the centre of Witnica. The Witna stream runs directly beside it. The park features the installation “Droga donikąd,” which includes the remains of field fortifications and a fragment of the Berlin Wall. The spacious grounds and an installation explicitly connected to historical evidence stand side by side in the park.
The Muzeum Chwały Oręża Polskiego offers a different focus. Its collections are divided into three sections: “Wojsko Polskie 1919–1939,” “Polskie Siły Zbrojne na Zachodzie” and “Współczesne Siły Zbrojne.” The titles span the Polish Army from 1919 to 1939, the Polish Armed Forces in the West and the modern armed forces. The collections are complemented by an outdoor exhibition of cannons, howitzers and anti-aircraft guns used by the Polish Army during the Second World War. Those interested in military history will therefore find both an organised collection and an outdoor exhibition here.
Brewing History, Architecture and Events
The Lubuskie Muzeum Browarnictwa is located on the grounds of the brewery, in a former malt house. Its memorabilia come from breweries in around 50 places where beer was brewed in what is now the Lubusz region. The museum also has a device that allows visitors to create their own beer blend. If you would like to include this option in your plans, check whether the device is available before your visit.
Witnickie Piwowaria is a regular outdoor event that has been held in Witnica since 2014. The parish church offers another perspective, this time architectural: it is Neo-Gothic and also features Neo-Romanesque elements. The subjects are distinct, ranging from brewing history and a recurring event to a specific building with two named architectural features. If you are interested, check the event dates for your planned visit.
A signposted riding trail through the municipality
The Polsko–Niemiecki Szlak Konny Nowe Polichno–Pritzhagen is the first Polish-German riding trail and passes through the municipality of Witnica. It is signposted, and maps of the route are available at tourist facilities. Within the municipality, the route passes through the Bogdaniec Nature Reserve, Świerkocin, Witnica, Mościczki, Kamień Wielki, Młyniska and Dąbroszyn, before reaching Warniki. If you plan to use it, the signposting and maps available at tourist facilities can help you find your way.
When choosing where to stay, it is therefore worth first deciding what you want to focus on during your trip: will it be mainly about the museums, the park and the architecture, or would you also like to take the riding trail through the municipality into account?
