Sulęcin: Cultural History and Cycling Routes

In Sulęcin, you can plan a trip around two distinct themes: the town’s history and routes through the surrounding landscape. Sulęcin offers specific points of interest for both: the town has historic buildings, and several named walking and cycling routes pass through or start in Sulęcin. Cycling Routes and Walking Trails Around Sulęcin

The routes vary in activity and destination. The red walking trail from Sulęcin to Żubrów is 11.7 kilometers long. The green 4R cycling route starts at the roundabout in Sulęcin and runs 9.7 kilometers to Wąwóz Sucha Rzeka. This gives you a choice between a longer designated walking route and a shorter named cycling route with a different destination; their lengths alone do not indicate how long they take to walk or cycle.

There is also a wider selection of cycling routes beyond Sulęcin: the cycling network around the town is about 360 kilometers long and includes three major and three smaller loops. All the smaller cycling loops start at Sulęcin’s market square, Plac Czarnieckiego. This gives you a specific starting point to use when planning a loop. The European Cycle Route R-1 passes through Sulęcin; 13.2 kilometers of the route run within the Gmina Sulęcin.

Sulęcin is home to the rebuilt 14th-century Gothic Church of St. Nicholas. Fragments of the defensive walls from the same period have survived, including a gate and traces of towers. The 18th-century House of the Knights Hospitaller adds a later chapter to the town’s architectural history. Together, the three buildings show different historical layers that visitors can explore in their own way during a stay in town.

The market square is not only the starting point for the smaller cycling loops but also the setting for the Jarmark Koguci. This recurring Easter market has a long tradition in Sulęcin. In 2025, it took place on April 13 in the market square. Landscape and Nearby Destinations

The Łagowsko-Sulęciński Landscape Park lies within the municipalities of Łagów and Sulęcin. Its network includes well-marked walking and cycling routes and nature trails. The park contains the Buczyna Łagowska, Nad jeziorem Trześniowskim and Pawski Ług nature reserves. This larger landscape area is distinct from the individual routes that pass directly through Sulęcin.

Nearby, Uroczysko Lubniewsko covers more than 1,400 hectares, with Lake Lubniewsko accounting for 17 percent of its area. There are designated trails for walking and cycling. Wąwóz Żubrowski in this area is about 700 meters long and up to 30 meters deep. The covered observation pier “Domek na wodzie” is also located on the lake’s west shore; check its condition before visiting.

In the wider travel area, the Łagowska cycling loop in the Sulęcin network passes Lake Buszno, 227-meter-high Bukowiec, and the Buczyna Łagowska and Pawski Ług nature reserves. This route connects several named landscape features in a single tour. A cycling route also leads to Lake Ostrów. In Trzebów, a brick bread oven dating from the late 19th century has been preserved and is considered a tourist attraction.
