Church, windmill and local tradition

The Church of St. Lawrence in Dolistowo Stare is one of the earliest Classicist buildings in the Podlaskie Voivodeship and has been preserved in its original form. It was designed by Jan Zschernig and completed in 1791. Next to it stands a two-storey bell tower made of fieldstone. Dolistowo Stare is also home to a Dutch windmill from the early 20th century. Those interested in Polish sacred architecture and distinctive local landscapes will find two different architectural points of reference here.

The stone known as “Bocianku” is part of the local tradition. A wooden cross was erected beside it. In 1947, the village residents funded a chapel through donations; the so-called “miracle stone” was used as its altar. According to local tradition, in 1884 the figure of the Mother of God is said to have appeared to three female residents of the village on a stone in a meadow near Dolistowo, the so-called “Bocianku”. The chapel foundation of 1947 and the tradition dating from 1884 belong to different points in the history of the locality.

The Biebrza as a natural and aquatic environment

The Biebrza riverbank area in Dolistowo Stare is suitable for ornithological observation. This part of the locality is therefore aimed at travellers who plan nature observation as an integral part of their trip to Poland. The river landscape stands alongside the cultural points of reference in the village and offers a different perspective on Dolistowo.

A specific road route is the Dolistowo–Jasionowo road. It runs from a wooden bridge in Dolistowo Stare along the Biebrza. The wooden bridge and the Biebrza provide two specific spatial points of reference for orientation along the Dolistowo–Jasionowo road.

In Dolistowo Stare, there is a beach on the Biebrza with a recreation and camping area. Kayak trips also take place every year, starting at the Masurian Lakes and extending along the entire Biebrza River. The beach and the kayak trips thus represent two different ways of experiencing the aquatic landscape: as a stay by the river or as a longer journey on the Biebrza. At the beach, spending time by the river is the focus; the kayak trips, by contrast, follow a long route from their starting point at the Masurian Lakes along the entire Biebrza River.

Travel interests and accommodation

The resort called “Dolistowo” (plot 659 in the Dolistowo Stare cadastral district) is designated for a maximum of 200 people present at the same time. The eastern Green Velo cycling route runs through Dolistowo. Together with the Biebrza, the cultural sites and the aquatic features, this provides a selection of different focuses for planning a trip to Poland.
