Sianowo combines a Marian pilgrimage site with cycling routes that can be distinguished by their lengths and itineraries. Madonna Statue and Pilgrimage Tradition
A 15th-century Madonna statue is housed in the church in Sianowo. It was crowned Queen of Kashubia in 1966. It continues to be venerated by Kashubian residents and by numerous pilgrims from Poland and abroad. A document from 1480 granted all the faithful a special indulgence for a pilgrimage to Sianowo to the “Łaskawa Figura.” The named references to the pilgrimage therefore reach far back in time and also include a devotion that continues to this day. Those interested in religious history can place these different points in time in context: the 1480 document, the age of the statue, and its coronation in 1966. They do not tell the same story, but describe different aspects of the significance attributed to the statue.
Liturgical Services at the Sanctuary
At the Sanctuary of Our Lady, Queen of Kashubia, a novena to the Madonna of Sianowo is held during Holy Mass on Wednesdays. Every Thursday, there is an Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for spiritual vocations after Mass. The two services differ in both the day of the week and their format: the novena takes place during Mass, while the adoration follows it. If you would like to include the religious practices of the town in your travel plans, you can use this information as a guide when choosing the day of your visit.
On July 20, 2025, the annual Great Indulgence was celebrated at the sanctuary, associated with the veneration of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. This date refers to the 2025 celebration and adds a specific occasion to the pilgrimage traditions that reach back much further.
Cycling Routes and Distances
The green cycling route runs from Kartuzy via Łapalice, Lake Białe, and Pomieczyńska Huta to Sianowo. It is 26.5 km long, with an estimated travel time of about 2 hours and 40 minutes. Both the sequence of the places named and the approximate travel time are useful for orientation. The route can therefore be considered a tour from Kartuzy to Sianowo in its own right, without confusing it with the also-described Sianowo–Garcz section.
The Sianowo–Garcz cycling route section is 4.8 km long and runs through the Kashubian Landscape Park. Its main attractions include the sanctuary church, built in 1816, and Lake Sianowskie. This route description therefore highlights both a religious landmark and a lake as attractions. The differences between the stated details are key when choosing between the cycling routes: the green route starts in Kartuzy and is 26.5 km long; the Sianowo–Garcz section is 4.8 km.
