Location

Darżlubie is located on Kępa Pucka at the eastern edge of Puszcza Darżlubska. The village lies in the Gmina of Puck, in Puck County and the Pomeranian Voivodeship in northern Poland.

Nature

The wider regional surroundings of Darżlubie include the Puszcza Darżlubska Landscape Protection Area, which encompasses large parts of Kępa Pucka, the Piaśnica sandur and the basin of Lake Dobrego. In the wider surroundings of Darżlubie, Puszcza Darżlubska is a forest complex on the Baltic Sea in the geographical region of Kashubian Coast; it contains two nature reserves and is the source of the Piaśnica and Gizdepka rivers.

The Groty Mechowskie cave and the “Darżlubskie Buki” nature reserve are located 3 km west of Darżlubie. The “Darżlubskie Buki” nature reserve protects a natural part of the former Puszcza Darżlubska forest and covers 28.90 hectares of 160-year-old beech, pine and oak forest.

History and Places

The oldest surviving records of Darżlubie date from 1296 and 1300. From 1827 to 1973, Darżlubie was the seat of a forestry office that was initially royal and later state-run.

The Puszcza Darżlubska in the wider surroundings of Darżlubie is associated with the martyrdom of Polish and Jewish people during the Second World War and was the site of mass murders of Polish civilians during the Second World War.

The Church of Saints James and Nicholas in Mechowo is located 3½ km west of Darżlubie.

Routes and Connections

Bus route 649 connects Brudzewo, Celbowo, Połczyno and Darżlubie. The green Wejherowo–Darżlubie cycling route is designated as a cycle touring route. The Grot Mechowskich hiking trail runs along Leśników Street, passing the former forestry office.
