Manor House and Park in the Village

Choczewo is home to a manor house and park complex comprising a palace, a former outbuilding, and a park dating from the third quarter of the 19th century. A chestnut avenue leads to the manor house. The estate of the Palace of Choczewo was owned by the von Dzięcielski family from 1742 to 1945. The buildings, park, and avenue give the complex several distinct facets: the park has a defined period, the avenue connects to the manor house, and the period of ownership adds a separate historical context to the architectural history.

The Village Settlement Pattern

Choczewo retains a traditional village settlement pattern in the form of a so-called linear village, known in Polish as ulicówka. This refers to a long, narrow settlement laid out along a road. This makes it possible to distinguish between two different features as you find your way around: the settlement pattern along a road and the chestnut avenue leading to the manor house.

Natural Features in the Municipality

The Choczewskie Cisy nature reserve was established in the municipality of Choczewo in 1961 to protect a naturally regenerating stand of yew in a species-rich mixed forest. Its conservation purpose encompasses three specific aspects: the yew stand, its natural regeneration, and the mixed forest. For nature enthusiasts, this offers a clearly defined way to explore the municipality's landscape.

The Stilo Lighthouse also stands in the municipality, on a high, wooded dune, 1,000 metres from the coastline. This is a different landscape context from the nature reserve: the lighthouse is defined by the dune and its distance from the coast, while Choczewskie Cisy is characterised by the yew stand and mixed forest. You can therefore consider these two nature themes in terms of their distinct features, without treating them as a single landscape experience.

Route Towards the Sea

A 9 km yellow walking and cycling route begins just outside Choczewo. It passes through Kierzkowo towards the Szklana Huta forester's lodge. The yellow route also heads towards the sea and allows you to travel without using the Choczewo–Lubiatowo road, which is heavily trafficked during the season.
