Traces of railway, mining and city history
St. Catherine’s Parish Church is considered the city’s oldest and most valuable monument. The locomotive workshop is a testament to the history of technology: it was built in 1853–1854, is closely associated with the establishment of the railway junction in Dziedzice, and is considered a valuable technical monument. The church and the workshop offer different perspectives on the city’s historical heritage.
The miners’ settlement on Górnicza Street also tells the story of local industry. It was built in 1903 for the miners of the “Silesia” hard coal mine and arranged in five rows, known as “raje.” The regional museum room offers another view of the city and the region: it collects and preserves historical objects and makes them available to residents, students and visitors. This allows you to broaden your view from individual buildings to historical objects and their regional context.
City parks with their own character
The “Lasek” city park dates back to a landscaping project by the owners of the “Schodnica” refinery in the second half of the 1890s. The project made use of the old stand of trees in Dolny Las “Goju,” consisting mainly of oaks. The “Ptasi Zegar” installation is also located in the park. Lasek thus combines its history with a named feature to keep in mind as you explore the city’s parks.
Szwajcarska Dolina Park covers eight hectares and is the largest leisure and recreation complex in Czechowice-Dziedzice. Park na Północy covers 3.6 hectares and lies in the city’s northern district, along Polna, Baczyńskiego and Morcinka streets. These details give you a clear idea of the parks’ size and location, without suggesting that they offer the same kind of recreation.
Cycling: an activity in the park
An approximately 900-metre-long MTB trail runs through the northern part of Szwajcarska Dolina. It is intended for beginner and intermediate cyclists.
