Studzienka: Spring, Chapel and Grottoes
The Studzienka spring is associated with a legend about Father Walenty. According to tradition, it emerged at the place where he was murdered by the Hussites around 1430 and later found his final resting place. The water was believed locally to have miraculous properties and to be capable of curing illnesses.
The Studzienka chapel also has its own origin story. Father Edward Bolik had it built in the late 19th century out of gratitude for regaining his health, and dedicated it to the Virgin Mary. It was solemnly consecrated on 15 August 1895. It was modelled on the chapel above the grotto in Lourdes, France. Inside are a sculpture of Our Lady of Lourdes and a depiction of Bernadette Soubirous kneeling before her.
Studzienka also has two smaller grottoes with different dedications. One is dedicated to Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners; the other is known as the Grotto of the Unemployed. Together with the chapel, these sites give a visit a clear religious and historical focus. If you are interested in the history of devotion and its visible expressions, the different dedications offer specific points of connection rather than placing just one building at the centre.
Church and Religious Routes
The wooden Bożego Ciała Church in Jankowice was built in 1675. It is one of the few churches in Silesia with a Greek-cross floor plan. Its construction date and layout make it a destination in its own right for anyone interested in historic religious architecture. Together with the Studzienka chapel, it offers a chance to explore two different church buildings and their individual histories.
The Jankowicki Trail passes the chapel in the Studzienka woodland and ends at the wooden church in Jankowice. Linking these two sites is especially useful if you want to visit the chapel and church as part of the same route. Pilgrim Route No. 323 offers a different focus: it begins at Bożego Ciała Church and runs from Świerklany to Pszów, passing religious places of worship and sacred cultural monuments. The full route is listed as 17.4 kilometres long. It therefore offers a route that extends beyond Jankowice, as well as a concrete reference point for planning.
Cycling Routes and Navigation
Several route options are also relevant for cyclists. A blue cycling route crosses Jankowice from northwest to east, where it connects with the Rybnik cycling route, which runs around Boguszowice. The marked blue cycling route No. 292 links Boguszowice and Jankowice. There are relatively few route markers on the section in Jankowice. This information can help you find your way when preparing your ride.
The final section of cycling route No. 292 near Jankowice runs partly over gravel and, in places, over muddy, unpaved ground. As route markings and surface conditions can change, it is a good idea to check the current route before setting off. The cycling routes therefore differ not only in the places they connect, but also in the navigation and surface details that matter when planning each ride.
Another named landmark is the Michał Oak on Akacjowa Street. It stands on the right-hand side of the road and is described as a monumental tree. If, alongside the religious sites, you would also like to identify individual landmarks in the village, it adds a very different point of interest.
