Sumina between River Landscapes and Cultural Heritage

Sumina can be explored from two different perspectives: its river and bog landscape, and traces of the village’s history. The blue cycling route No. 314 adds a clearly designated cycling option.

River and Bog as Natural Features

A naturally meandering stretch of the Sumina River runs between Sumina and Górki Śląskie. For those interested in waterscapes, it provides a specific point of reference for understanding the area. There is also an opportunity to look for signs of wildlife along the riverbank: walking along the Sumina, you may come across beaver feeding sites.

A bog lies in the municipality of Lyski, near the Bączkowiec pond complex, on the border between Sumina and Zwonowice. The strictly protected round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia) grows there. The bog is also a habitat and breeding ground for several amphibian species, including the common toad (Bufo bufo) and the common frog (Rana temporaria). The river and the bog offer different points of interest: here, a meandering watercourse shapes the landscape; there, the focus is a habitat with strictly protected sundew and amphibians. Wooden Architecture and Local History

The forestry lodge in Sumina is built entirely of wood and probably dates from the late 19th century. It is the only building in the municipality of Lyski with an entirely wooden structure, and it is an open-air museum. Its construction and dating give it a distinctive place among the village’s historic features; its date remains probable.
