Church, oral tradition and archaeological traces

Beneath the pulpit of the church in Boreczno is a tombstone depicting an armoured Renaissance knight. He is identified as Johannes von Schönaich, an owner of Boreczno in the 16th century. His name and historical identification give the depiction a specific connection to local history. The parish Church of the Holy Cross is listed in the Polish register of monuments and the monument list.

Another detail can be seen high on the church tower: a worked granite stone protrudes from the masonry. A legend passed down to this day links it to a woman’s penance. The legend adds a story to this architectural feature; alongside the tombstone identified by name, it represents a different form of tradition. The Pastorówka in Boreczno is also listed in the Polish register of monuments and the monument list. The church and the Pastorówka are therefore two separate, specifically named monument entries.

The fortified settlement site near Boreczno, site 5, has three ditches and two lines of ramparts. Preliminary research dates the site to the Early Iron Age.
