Urowo: Discover the hillfort and cycling routes

Urowo can be explored for trip planning through two specific themes: an early medieval Old Prussian hillfort nearby and three cycling routes that pass through the village. The hillfort offers a clearly defined historical point of interest; the routes make Urowo part of circuits that start and end in Kaletka. For orientation, it is helpful to consider the hillfort and cycling routes separately: the former lies south of the village, while the latter pass through Urowo.

A hillfort near Lake Kocioł

An early medieval Old Prussian hillfort lies 1 km south of the village of Urowo. The hillfort site is near the southern shore of Lake Kocioł and occupies the northern part of a long hill that runs in a NNW–SSE direction. NNW–SSE indicates an orientation from north-northwest to south-southeast. Together, the distance, the reference to the shore and the shape of the hill give a more precise picture of its location than simply associating it with the village. When locating the site on a map, you can use Urowo as a reference point and the southern lakeshore area as another landmark.

Three cycling routes in two lengths

All three routes start in Kaletka and pass through Urowo and Sąpy on the return leg. Two are 25 km long, while the third is 32 km—seven kilometres longer. The fact that the two shorter routes are the same length does not make them the same tour: their listed places and the order in which they appear differ. To choose between them, you can first weigh up 25 versus 32 km, then check which of the listed sequences of places best suits your plans.

One 25 km option runs from Kaletka via Sąpy and Urowo to Mózgowo, then on to Karnity and Mózgowo again, followed by Wielowieś, Boreczno and Duba. The return route passes through Urowo and Sąpy to Kaletka. The second 25 km option starts in Urowo and first heads to Duba, then continues via Gubławki, Wieprz, Karpowo, Śliwa, Boreczno and Duba again. It then also returns to Kaletka via Urowo and Sąpy. The sequence of places makes it possible to distinguish between the two circuits of equal length.

The 32 km route runs from Kaletka via Sąpy and Urowo to Boreczno, then via Śliwa, Janiki Wielkie, Jaśkowo, Wielowieś and Mózgowo. It then returns to Kaletka via Urowo and Sąpy. Boreczno appears in all three sequences of places. Mózgowo features in the first 25 km option and the 32 km route, while Śliwa appears in the second 25 km option and the 32 km route. If you want to include particular places from the list, these overlaps provide another point of comparison alongside the total distance.
