Lake Wełtyń is a ribbon lake. It has three islands: Koźla, Dzik, and Mała. Its varied shoreline and numerous bays are also part of the lake’s character.

The lake is also a refuge for many bird species, including cormorants, swans, ducks, and great crested grebes. The waterscape and birdlife thus define two distinct sides of the village: the lake’s bays and islands, as well as its importance as a habitat. Hiking Trails and Cycling Route Through Wełtyń

Three named hiking trails pass through Wełtyń: the green Woja Żelisława Trail, the blue Równiny Wełtyńskiej i Pojezierza Myśliborskiego Trail, and the black Czepiński Trail. Their names and colors clearly distinguish the designated routes for planning purposes. The blue Ziemi Wełtyńskiej cycling route also passes through the village and is 38.3 kilometers long.

The wider Gryfino destination also has a cycling route that runs from Jana Pawła II Street in Gryfino through Wełtyń to Gardno. The section associated with Gryfino on the 257-kilometer Blue Velo route is about 46 kilometers long. It runs mainly along former railway embankments, as well as forest paths and public roads with little traffic. These regional routes complement the paths that pass directly through Wełtyń and offer another consideration when choosing an area to visit.

Local History and Church

Wełtyń was once a small town, and its urban layout has been preserved. This historical background is part of the village’s character, without needing to use a larger city as a point of comparison. A notable landmark in its history is the stone church dating from the 15th century. It belongs to the Roman Catholic parish under the patronage of Matki Bożej Różańcowej and is considered a particularly valuable monument in Gryfino County.

Inside the church, murals created around 1520 cover almost the entire wall surface of the nave. This also makes the church interesting to travelers who want to include historic buildings and their interiors in their plans, alongside scenery and outdoor activities. The combination of a preserved urban layout and a medieval church gives Wełtyń another dimension: its cultural history.

Getting Around Locally and in the Destination

Municipal bus route 4 serves four stops in Wełtyń: Wełtyń Skrzyż., Wełtyń II, Wełtyń I, and Wełtyń, ul. Gryfińska. The timetable is valid from March 11, 2024, to December 31, 2027. You can take this information into account when considering how to plan your stay and getting around.

In the wider Gryfino destination, Gryfino also offers cultural attractions: the historic town layout still clearly reflects its 13th-century founding. Kino Gryf is one of the smallest cinemas in Poland and the only cinema in Gryfino County; its program includes film premieres and 3D screenings. This lets you weigh Wełtyń’s lakeside and trail-focused character against other aspects of the Gryfino destination, without treating the different places as one and the same.
