Oder Riverfront and Water Sports
Greifenhagen’s riverfront lies on the right bank of the Eastern Oder and serves passenger ships and water tourism. It is connected to the Zachodniopomorski Szlak Żeglarski. This network links tourist harbours and marinas in West Pomerania along the Oder, the Szczecin Lagoon and the Baltic coast with German waters. The riverfront is therefore not only part of the townscape, but also part of a wider water sports network.
A cycle path runs along the entire riverside promenade; there is also a free public toilet. The bathing area on the Eastern Oder is unsupervised, and swimming is prohibited there. It is therefore important not to confuse the bathing area with the water sports facilities: on the Oder beach at ul. Sportowa, you can rent water sports equipment. The rental options include single kayaks, two-person kayaks with room for a child, and SUP boards.
Historic Town and Culture
The historic town layout dates back to the town’s founding in the 13th century and remains clearly discernible today. It gives Greifenhagen a historical character that extends beyond individual event venues. Cycling Routes with Different Distances
Several specific routes are described for cycling tours. One cycle route runs from Jana Pawła II Street in Greifenhagen via Wełtyń to Gardno. Greifenhagen is also connected to a section of the Blue Velo route: the 257-kilometre route includes a section of around 46 kilometres here. It runs mainly along former railway embankments, as well as forest tracks and public roads with little traffic. The route via Wełtyń to Gardno therefore follows a different course from the Blue Velo section.
Getting There and Finding Your Way
Greifenhagen can be reached from Szczecin via national road 31. From the bus station in Gryfino, PKS Szczecin operates services to Szczecin and all localities in the Gryfino municipality. Two points of reference are therefore given for getting around: the road connection from Szczecin and bus services from the bus station.
