The pier and the town’s history

The Oceanarium is located in Międzyzdroje. The pier has its own visitor tradition: couples hang padlocks on the railing as a memento of their stay and a symbol of their love. This gesture gives the pier personal meaning for visitors. For your planning, these are two distinct attractions in town: the Oceanarium and a gesture that visitors associate with their stay.

One historic landmark is the spa house, now the building of the Międzynarodowy Dom Kultury. Belgian merchant Arnoldt Lejune built it in 1860 and laid out the spa park at the foot of the building. The year it was built, its builder, and the park are all part of a connected local history. The handprints on Aleja Gwiazd also have a precisely dated history: in November 2005, they were moved to the new Aleja Gwiazd under the supervision of Professor Adam Myjak. They are located at the recreation area on ul. Promenada Gwiazd in Międzyzdroje. The change of location is a detail in the history of the handprints in its own right. Plac Gwiazd also has a rest area with comfortable loungers and benches. This lets you include public art and a place to relax as different aspects of your trip planning.

Art and sculptures

Four of the total eight sculptures created as part of a competition in the town’s then-urban setting can be seen in Park Rzeźb. Distinguishing between the total number of competition entries and the four sculptures displayed in the park helps separate their creation from their presentation. If you want to include cultural sites in your trip, this art adds another theme to the history of the spa house and Aleja Gwiazd, without requiring you to combine the different sites into a fixed route.

Hiking trail and wildlife viewing

For a hike, a black trail leads from Międzyzdroje via Kawcza Góra and the “Kwasowo” car park. Near the Zagroda Pokazowa Żubrów, it meets the green hiking trail. The route description thus provides named landmarks and a specific connection to another trail. Check local trail updates before setting out; the trail connection and its named stops also give you a clear starting point for planning.

At the Woliński Park bison reserve, visitors can see wisents, deer, wild boar, and roe deer; which animals are actually visible may vary. White-tailed eagles are kept in a nearby aviary, not at the bison reserve. This distinction is useful if wildlife viewing is among your travel interests. Your plans can therefore include two different options: a hiking route with named waypoints or a visit to the animal reserve.
