Soldin: Old Town, lake and Polish culture
Accommodation in Soldin
Soldin (Myślibórz) combines a medieval town center with Jezioro Myśliborskie and a diverse cultural scene. You can shape your trip around local history, water activities and events. When choosing where to stay, the main consideration is what you want to focus on: architecture and history, time at the lake or cultural events.
Jezioro Myśliborskie and activities on the water
Jezioro Myśliborskie is suitable for relaxation and water sports. In Myślibórz, there are two swimming areas on the lake monitored by WOPR lifeguards: at ul. Szarych Szeregów and at os. XX-lecia PRL. These named locations offer a specific point of reference if you are planning time swimming by the water.
Kayak trips on Jezioro Myśliborskie and the Myślą River can be arranged at the marina in Myślibórz. This means that, in addition to spending time at the lake, paddling trips on two different bodies of water are also possible. The Pływalnia Kryta adds to the city's water activities: the indoor pool has five lanes, each 25 meters long.
The Old Town and buildings in Soldin
The Old Town retains its medieval street plan. The Nowogródzka Gate, a prominent part of the historic fortifications, has been preserved in the defensive walls. The Kolegiata Świętego Jana Chrzciciela stands beside the market square. Together with the late Baroque town hall, whose architecture features elements of Rococo and early Neoclassicism, these buildings offer different ways to explore the city's history and appearance.
Another historic building is the Dutch windmill at ul. Szkolna 8. It broadens the view beyond the Old Town to include a building with a history of its own. Visitors especially interested in architecture and historic urban structures will find a range of points of interest in Soldin: the medieval street plan, the fortifications, the town hall and the windmill.
Places of spiritual significance are also part of the cityscape: the Myśliborskie Sanktuarium Miłosierdzia Bożego and the Dom Macierzysty Zgromadzenia Sióstr Jezusa Miłosiernego are located in Myślibórz. The city's modern history is connected with Saint Faustina Kowalska and Blessed Michał Sopoćko. For visitors interested in cultural history, this offers another way to explore Soldin's history, alongside its buildings and medieval street plan.
Museum, festivals and cultural events
The Muzeum Pojezierza Myśliborskiego currently has four exhibitions: “Myślibórz we wczesnym średniowieczu,” “Z dziejów Myśliborza” and “Historia i etnografia,” as well as Gallery “M,” featuring contemporary art. The subjects range from the early Middle Ages and local history to ethnography and contemporary art.
Around the turn of May and June each year, the museum organizes the Jarmark Klasztorny, an open-air festival with a historical and cultural character. The Spotkania Młodych Autorów i Kompozytorów Piosenki “SMAK” im. Jonasza Kofty takes place every September. Young singers, authors, composers and performers take part; renowned composers and artists lead workshops for participants. The Dni Myśliborza is also a recurring outdoor event. It is aimed at residents of the city and surrounding area, as well as tourists. These events each have a different focus: a historical and cultural festival, a gathering with workshops and an outdoor event.
Cycling and getting around
The 60-kilometer Myślibórz–Barlinek–Choszczno cycling stage is fully complete. It runs mostly along paved cycle paths built on a former railway line. For those arriving by car, the location near the S3 expressway is also a useful point of reference.
Consider which of these aspects you would most like to focus on during your stay, and choose your accommodation to match your plans.
