Drezno on Lake Studnica: Kayak Routes and Village History

Drezno (Dręźno) lies at a distinctive confluence: the Bielec Stream flows into Lake Studnica here. Kayak routes also meet at the lake. The water and routes are therefore the clearest points of reference when considering the village as a destination for your stay. A park and a historic cemetery also give the village its own cultural and historical dimension.

Kayak Routes on Lake Studnica

On the shore of Lake Studnica in Drezno is Stanica ZHP, a scout hostel and the best starting point for the Gwda kayaking trail. The upper, 45-kilometer section of this trail begins at Lake Studnica and ends in Lubnicki Mlyn.

Another route forms part of the “Pętla Szczecinecka”: the section of the Gwda from Lake Studnica to Dołga in the village of Gwda Wielka is part of this kayaking route. The “Pętla Szczecinecka” also crosses Lake Studnica between Drezno and Orawka. The Gwda and “Pętla Szczecinecka” kayak routes meet at the lake and continue together from there.

Lake, River, and Protected Landscape

Lake Studnica covers 102 hectares, is 8.5 kilometers long, and reaches a depth of up to 25 meters. Nearby, the Gwda flows between Lakes Studnica and Wielimie through the “Lakes of Szczecinek” protected landscape area. The destination’s waterscape thus includes not only the lake, but also the river and protected landscape.

In 2019, a 12-meter-long and more than 2-meter-wide pier was launched into the water at Stanica Harcerska in Drezno.

The Park and Cemetery as Historical Traces

Drezno’s park dates from the second half of the 19th century and is listed in the WEZ monument inventory. The Protestant cemetery also dates from the second half of the 19th century. It is in the eastern part of the village, on a wooded rise south of the Bielec Stream, and is likewise listed in the WEZ monument inventory. For visitors who want to consider historic sites alongside the water when choosing a destination, the village offers two specific points of interest: the park and the cemetery, each with its own connection to local history.

The broader Szczecinek destination also offers historical points of interest beyond Drezno. In Trzebiechowo, a palace complex dates from the second half of the 19th century; the village also has a church dedicated to Our Lady of Częstochowa, dating from the third quarter of that century. In Wierzchowo, the Church of the Assumption of Mary dates from the 18th century. For culturally minded travelers, the palace complex and churches in Trzebiechowo, together with the church in Wierzchowo, add a distinct dimension to the broader Szczecinek destination, complementing Drezno’s waterside setting and kayak routes.
