Cultural History and Places of Remembrance
The Cultural Centre houses the Museum of the Battles for the Pomeranian Wall. Since 2011, it has also had a room devoted to the history of military aviation. The two subjects offer different perspectives: the museum focuses on the battles for the Pomeranian Wall, while the room explores military aviation. The town’s history is therefore presented from both a historical and an aviation-related perspective.
Other places of remembrance in Miroslawiec reflect specific connections to the city and aviation. A T-34/85 tank memorial commemorates the soldiers who fell in the battle for the city in 1945. The SU-22 aircraft monument marks the residents’ 58-year connection with military aviation. The monument to Our Lady of Loreto, in turn, commemorates all the airmen who served and continue to serve in the Polish skies. Together, these sites represent different forms of remembrance without repeating the same historical theme.
The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary offers another historical point of interest: the von Blankenburg family had it built in 1721. Inside are an 18th-century baptismal font and a choir gallery. The family’s history is also reflected in its cemetery on Góra Piaskowa, which dates from the 19th century. The church, its furnishings and the cemetery thus lead from a construction date to other traces, each with a specific date.
Landscape and Trails
Miroslawiec lies in a broad hollow. The picturesque valleys of the Korytnica streams, along with wooded, hilly areas, surround the city. These features of the landscape provide a different focus from the monuments and historic buildings: as well as cultural history, waterways and undulating, wooded terrain shape the character of the area.
The Pętla Mirosławiecka is a 31.35-kilometre circular walking trail that starts and ends in Miroslawiec. The entire route is designated for walkers, cyclists and Nordic walking enthusiasts.
Another route description presents the ruins of Wedel Castle as a possible sight to visit at the end of the blue circular trail, which passes through the city centre. The Wedel castle courtyard dates from around 1375 and is surrounded by a wet moat. The building’s history and the opportunity to visit the ruins in connection with the city centre link a historic site to a specific part of the walking route.
