Lake Raduń and the lakeside promenade

At Lake Raduń, the Miejskie Ośrodek Sportu i Rekreacji offers a lifeguarded swimming area and the option to rent kayaks, boats and pedal boats. If you would rather enjoy the lake from the shore, Aleja Gwiazd Sportu is another place to start: it lies on the eastern side of Wałcz, beside the lake, and forms part of the lakeside promenade. Metal plaques embedded in the pavement are each dedicated to an athlete.

These options let you give your plans different focuses without having to put together an extensive itinerary: the rentals are for activities on the water, while the promenade offers a route along the shore. When looking for accommodation, you can consider which of these themes matters most to you during your stay.

Museums, the town hall and local history

The Muzeum Ziemi Wałeckiej preserves collections on the prehistory and settlement of the Wałcz region, the city’s development, and the construction and breaching of the Pomeranian Wall. The museum also organises numerous temporary exhibitions. The Szlak wałeckich zabytków begins at this museum in central Wałcz. This makes it possible to combine a museum visit with a starting point for exploring the city’s landmarks.

Another perspective on the city awaits at the town hall: it is one of the few Neo-Renaissance town halls in West Pomerania and makes a striking architectural statement in the city centre. The Muzeum Wału Pomorskiego complements these historical themes with exhibits on the construction of the Pomeranian Wall and the wartime operations in the area. Together, the two museums offer different approaches, from a broader view of settlement and urban development to the history of the fortification line.

Lakeside trails and excursions with different focuses

The Trasa Grupy Warownej Cegielnia is marked with signs bearing the route’s name. In Wałcz, this cycling route leads to the Grupa Warowna Cegielnia open-air museum, where a visit is planned. The Szlak wałeckich zabytków also ends with a visit to the open-air museum. Both routes therefore connect their respective journeys with a historical destination; the visit is part of their described routes.

For a shorter introduction to the landscape, the nearby Ścieżka edukacyjno-przyrodnicza Morzyce offers a point of comparison. It is about 3 km long, runs through the forests of Wałcz near Morzyce and Lake Raduń, and is marked with yellow arrows. In Wałcz, there are also two routes with specified lengths to choose from: the green-marked Wałcz–Czapla–Wiesiółka route is 12 km long; the 7 km black-marked Wałcz–Kłębowiec route passes through Pluskota and Rudnica.

Wałcz as part of a wider excursion

In Wałcz, the Kłosowski Bridge, also known as the suspension bridge, connects the two shores of Lake Raduń. The bridge is for pedestrians only and shortens the walk to the forest on the opposite shore. Wałecka Aleja Gwiazd is also among the lakeside paths in eastern Wałcz; it begins near the Miejskie Ośrodek Sportu i Rekreacji. On the lake, at the level of COS OPO, there are rowing and canoe racing courses with supporting facilities, where competitions are held. These facilities differ from the kayak, boat and pedal boat rentals offered at the Miejskie Ośrodek Sportu i Rekreacji.

In Wałcz, visitors can use a flight simulator and driving simulators for cars, forklifts and excavators at the “Metalowe Inspiracje” Local Science Centre; younger visitors can enjoy an educational playground there. COS OPO Bukowina lies on the outskirts of Wałcz, on the road towards Gorzów Wielkopolski, in a forested area with beech trees. Alongside the lake, museums and trails, there are thus other themes to consider when choosing accommodation and planning your trip.
