Papowo Toruńskie: Church and Cycling Route
Accommodation in Papowo Toruńskie
Papowo Toruńskie offers two distinct starting points for planning your trip: St. Nicholas Church and a yellow-marked cycling route. The church combines a building history dating back to the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries with furnishings from later centuries. The route from Toruń to Młyniec passes through the village. In addition, journeys on MZK line 142 were planned for 2026.

St. Nicholas Church: Building History and Furnishings
The Gothic St. Nicholas Church was built at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. Its chancel is the oldest part of the building. A Neo-Gothic tower and a porch were added in 1907. This makes it possible to distinguish the older church building from the later additions chronologically, without treating them as a single construction phase.
The Late Baroque high altar dates from 1720. At its center is an image of the Madonna and Child, accompanied by sculptures of two holy bishops, two angels and God the Father. A Rococo side altar on the left dates from the second half of the 18th century. The other furnishings also provide several specific points of reference: the pulpit is Baroque and dates from around 1720, while the Baroque baptismal font dates from the first half of the 18th century. The inventory also includes choir stalls and a confessional from 1794.
Another detail is a Late Gothic bust of Saint Barbara dating from around 1500, located in the upper part of an altar. Together with the high altar and the later furnishings, it shows that the works of art mentioned belong to different periods. When exploring the church, you can therefore consider its building history and furnishings separately: the oldest part of the building and the additions made in 1907 on the one hand, and the dated altars and furnishings on the other.
Churchyard and Local History
The churchyard contains the graves of prominent families as well as Toruń national and social activists from the period of the Partitions of Poland. The families mentioned include the Czarliński family, owners of Zakrzewko, and the Donimirski family, owners of Łysomice. The graves add a historical perspective on families and figures associated with this period to the church’s architectural and artistic history. Here, church architecture, religious art and remembrance of the period of the Partitions stand side by side.
Cycling Route Through Papowo Toruńskie
The yellow-marked cycling route from Toruń to Młyniec is 28 kilometers long in total and passes through Papowo Toruńskie. The route also goes through Koniczynka, Lipniczki, Turzno, Gronówko, Jezioro Kamionki and Gronowo. The 28 kilometers refers to the entire connection between Toruń and Młyniec, not to a loop within the village. The listed stops help you see Papowo Toruńskie as one section of a longer route. The markings and route describe the course; check current trail conditions before setting out.
Planned Bus Journeys in 2026
Eight daily journeys on MZK line 142 were planned for 2026. The route was to start in Toruń at Plac św. Katarzyny, pass through Papowo Toruńskie and Łysomice, and return to Plac św. Katarzyny. This should be understood as a plan for 2026, not as a guarantee of a specific journey. If you want to use the bus connection, check the latest passenger information from MZK in advance.
These topics offer different points of reference without requiring you to attribute the entire 28-kilometer route to the village or assume that a planned journey is a current service.
