Turzno: Chapels, Castle Park and Chopin’s Visits

Local history and traces of the past

A Neoclassical chapel stands in the town center of Turzno. It was funded in 1800 by the Jeżewski family. Fryderyk Chopin visited Turzno once in 1825 and again in 1827. These were two separate visits, each with its own date, alongside the earlier founding of the chapel.

The Pałac Romantyczny hotel and conference complex in Turzno was officially opened on February 14, 2012. The historical period covered here therefore spans from the chapel built in 1800 to a complex dating from the 21st century.

Castle park and tree species

The English landscape park surrounding the castle dates from the first half of the 19th century and covers 16 hectares. Its tree population includes both coniferous and deciduous species, with 54 species in total. These include Douglas fir, Caucasian wingnut, American tulip tree and swamp oak. The area gives you a sense of the park’s scale, while the list of species offers a closer look at its trees. For travelers interested in designed landscapes as well as architecture, this adds a botanical focus.

The Zameczek garden pavilion

Behind the castle stands the neo-Gothic Zameczek garden pavilion. It was built around 1850 under Count Augustyn Działowski, fell into disrepair after the war and was rebuilt in 2011. Today, it houses a chapel where weddings are often held. This distinguishes the two chapel sites in Turzno: the Neoclassical chapel founded in the town center and the chapel in the rebuilt pavilion behind the castle. Its construction, subsequent decay and reconstruction give the Zameczek its own place in the town’s history.

Walks, a quest and a cycle path

During a PTTK hiking excursion on July 8, 2026, participants walked along the paths of the castle park. Along the way, they solved challenges from the quest “Turzna historia niezwykła” to learn about local history. On this occasion, the walk through the park combined exercise with a playful way to explore history. The Różankowo–Lulkowo and Kamionki Małe–Turzno cycle path was officially opened in Turzno on September 10, 2020. The excursion and the cycle path opening represent different ways of engaging with the area: one was a specific park walk with a quest, the other a distinct historical milestone for cycling.
