Lake and protected landscape

A landscape protection zone was established at Lake Steklin on 3 February 1994. Its stated grounds include aesthetic and landscape values, as well as natural and cultural values. The aim of protection thus brings together the distinctive landscape and its natural and cultural features. During your stay, the lake provides a point of reference: Lake Steklińskie is of glacial origin and is fed by the Łubianka. Around the lake, views extend over its pradolina.

Boating and kayaking are possible on Lake Steklińskie. If you would like to include time on the water in your stay, you can plan these activities as a focus alongside the landscape. Views of the pradolina complement the perspective from the water with a view of the area around the lake.

Nature trail and cycling route

The approximately 42 km-long nature trail “Szlakiem natury-szlakiem przeszłości” (Following the path of nature—following the path of the past) has a rest area in Steklin with shelters, tables and benches, bicycle racks, waste bins, and information boards about nature and history. Check the condition of the facilities before your visit. The boards bring together the two themes reflected in the trail’s name: nature and the past. The rest area provides a reference point for anyone wishing to include the nature trail in their exploration of the area.

A cycling route also has a name that refers to the landscape around the lake: the PTTK route “Wokół pradoliny jeziora Steklińskiego” (Around the pradolina of Lake Steklińskie) was opened on 10 May 2009 and passed through Steklin. If you are planning to ride the route today, check the current signage and condition of the path beforehand. This keeps the historical route information separate from your specific trip planning.

Manor house and local history

The manor house in Steklin is a late-classical building dating from the mid-19th century. Its grounds are laid out as a landscape park and cover 8 ha. They contain 52 species of trees and shrubs. The building and park add another historical and scenic dimension to the area: alongside the lake, the designed park landscape is also a focal point.

Steklin is documented as a settlement from at least the 14th century. An earlier reference describes it as a fortified settlement in the 10th century. These two dates point to different historical milestones: the early mention of a fortified settlement and the later documented settlement. Together with the 19th-century manor house, they offer several periods through which to understand the area’s history.
