Hiking between the village and the Gorce Mountains
Two hiking trails lead from Łopuszna to Turbacz, the highest peak in the Gorce Mountains. The older Seweryn Goszczyński Trail, which was already known at the beginning of the last century, passes through Zarębek Niżni and Zarębek Średni. It continues to the Srokówki clearing near Pucołowski Stawek and, east of Wysznia (1,103 m), to Kiczora; from Hala Długa, the trail leads to Turbacz. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
Less experienced mountain hikers can take walking routes from the village centre to Zarębek Wyżni via the rise of Goderman (705 m), as well as to Mount Chrobowska, also called Gobrowska, and to Koszary Harklowskie. These routes offer destinations and elevations to visit alongside a summit objective. A short path also leads from the scenic Srokówki clearing to Pucołowski Stawek.
These different destinations make it easier to choose a route that suits your hiking ability: Turbacz is the destination of the hiking trails from the village, while the walking routes lead to Zarębek Wyżni, Goderman, Chrobowska and Koszary Harklowskie. These destinations offer several starting points for exploring the local landscape on foot.
Valleys, forest clearings and Pucołowski Stawek
The Łopuszna Valley features deeply cut valleys with elevation differences of 350 to 400 m. It also has steep, forested mountain slopes, clear mountain streams and forest clearings along the trails. The clearings lie on mountain terraces and ridges; well-known ones include Chłapkowa, Chowańcowa, Srokówka, Wysznia, Jankówki, Cioski and Gawrowa.
Pucołowski Stawek is a geomorphological feature and is considered a great rarity in the landscape of the Gorce Mountains. It formed when a landslide from the slopes of Wysznia dammed the natural outflow of water. From the pond, there are far-reaching views over the Nowotarska Basin and the Tatras. The walk brings together several aspects of the landscape: how the body of water formed, its unusual place in the Gorce Mountains and the expansive views.
Wooden architecture and culture in Łopuszna
The wooden manor house in Łopuszna is a Polish manor with log walls that were originally clad in boards. It also features a porch and a dormer. The Church of the Holy Trinity is a Gothic wooden church with a straight-ended chancel and an exterior chapel.
The main altar in the wooden parish church contains a triptych painted on wood in the mid-15th century. The central panel depicts the Coronation of Mary. The lower, museum section of the Tischner Memorial Room contains mementos of the priest: favourite objects, manuscripts, books and photographs. If you plan to visit the memorial room, check visiting arrangements in advance.
The Klamerus Cottage is also a wooden building in Łopuszna. The century-old cottage was moved from the village centre and furnished with the interior of a peasant home from the early 20th century. The exhibition at the Klamerus House is currently unavailable.
