Views and routes through Jamna

From Jamna’s highest point, the view stretches across the Rożnów-Ciężkowice Foothills and the Beskid Sądecki Mountains to the panorama of the Tatra Mountains. This is a striking landscape to keep in mind when planning a stay in Jamna.

Several hiking trails offer different routes. The third section of the “Barbara” Partisan Battalion Trail passes through Jamna on the Sucha Góra–Jamna–Bartkowa route. The red trail runs from the mountain hut past the church in Jamna, across the plateau to Siekierczyna, where it turns onto a forest path. The yellow trail heads west to the PKS bus stop in Jamna and continues from there towards Lake Rożnowskie. These destinations and directions help distinguish the trails; check current trail markers and conditions locally before setting out.

The “Wielka Pętla Południowa” cycling route also passes through Jamna. It runs from Zakliczyn through Zdonia, Słona, Olszowa, Jamna, Paleśnica, Dzierżaniny, Borowa, Ruda Kameralna, Filipowice, Stróże and Wesołów, returning to Zakliczyn. This makes Jamna part of a described circular route whose waypoints are spread across several villages. Check the current local signage before setting off.

Local history and remembrance

In September 1944, the “Barbara” Partisan Battalion of the 16th Infantry Regiment of the Polish Home Army, commanded by Captain Eugeniusz Antoni Borowski, “Leliwa,” fought German troops in Jamna. During the pacification operation in Jamna that same month, 57 people were killed. These two events place the village’s history in a specific period and make remembrance of 1944 an important part of learning about Jamna.

Patriotic memorial ceremonies are held on the last Sunday in September in memory of the victims who fell in 1944. If you plan to time your trip for this occasion, check the dates and arrangements for the relevant year in advance. The “Barbara” Partisan Battalion Trail also bears the unit’s name and passes through Jamna on the Sucha Góra–Jamna–Bartkowa route.

The church in Jamna is dedicated to Our Lady of Jamna – Mother of Infallible Hope. Another place of remembrance is the memorial room dedicated to Father Jan Góra, located in the House of Saint Hyacinth. It displays his authentic furniture and everyday objects, as well as books, pictures, clothing, and other memorabilia. Visitors should contact one of the Dominicans living in Jamna.
