Jaroszowice: Trails and Chapels

Jaroszowice lies on the northern slopes of Jaroszowicka Góra in the eastern part of the Little Beskids. A significant part of the area is covered by forests. Pilgrimage and cycling routes, trails leading up to the summit, and several chapels give visitors specific points of interest during their stay. Which of these you would like to explore may also influence your choice of destination and accommodation.

Hiking and cycling trails around Jaroszowice

A clearly marked yellow-and-black route begins beyond the bridge over the Skawa in Jaroszowice. After about 1.5 hours, it reaches the summit of Jaroszowicka Góra, at 541 metres above sea level. The approximate duration and destination help distinguish this hike from the longer pilgrimage and cycling routes.

On its 20-kilometre section within Wadowice municipality, the Romea Strata passes through Jaroszowice, Wadowice, Chocznia, Zawadka and Ponikiew. Cycling enthusiasts can also take the route marked “Czarny”: it runs from Wadowice via Zawadka and Jaroszowice to Klecza Dolna and is 9.5 kilometres long. The two routes connect Jaroszowice with different types of trails; their lengths refer to the sections mentioned and to the cycling route, respectively.

Nearby, on the slopes of Jaroszowicka Góra, is the Wadowice Trails singletrack complex, which opened in 2026. It includes an uphill trail and four downhill trails, ranging from an easy family route to a trail for experts. Powsinoga is an uphill trail on the western slopes of Jaroszowicka Góra that leads to the summit of the complex. There is also a designated car park in the mountain area that serves as a starting point for Wadowice Trails; visitors continue from there to the trails by bicycle. Walks around Jaroszowicka Góra take place as part of the Carpathian Local Initiative “Let’s Discover the Nature of the Beskids”.

Chapels in the local landscape

The chapels also give the local landscape its own distinctive character. In the centre of Jaroszowice, on the road to Wadowice, stands a chapel with a 19th-century figure of the Man of Sorrows. Another brick chapel is dedicated to Our Lady of Perpetual Help and dates from the first half of the 19th century. In front of the cemetery entrance stands a brick pillar chapel with a figure of the Man of Sorrows.

Two chapels with figures of Our Lady of the Rosary are also in the centre, but their details make them easy to tell apart: one stands beside a wooden house and dates from 1903; it also has a stone cross. The other is near property No. 115 and houses a figure from 1908. Along with the trails, these specific places form a second focus for visitors interested in the local chapels as well as outdoor activities.

Wadowice as an additional point of reference

Wadowice lies in the western part of the Wieliczka Foothills, in a basin between the foothills and the mountain ranges of the Little Beskids, and in the valley of the Skawa. This description refers to Wadowice as a wider destination; the chapels described here and the starting point of the yellow-and-black route, by contrast, are in Jaroszowice.

In Wadowice itself, the Karol Wojtyła Trail offers another way to explore the town on foot: it is about 4.5 kilometres long and leads to 14 sites associated with the childhood and youth of Saint John Paul II. The Family Home of Pope John Paul II presents a permanent exhibition and also welcomes visitors for individual tours. For a different kind of activity, the pump track in Wadowice has loops for beginners and advanced riders; use is free of charge. These attractions are in Wadowice and complement, rather than form part of, Jaroszowice’s own trails and chapels.
