A church with medieval roots

The branch Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Dłużek is a Gothic church dating from the 14th century. It is oriented east, has a single nave, and is built of stone and brick. Two walls of the chancel had collapsed; after 1752, the church underwent major reconstruction. For travelers with a particular interest in historic religious buildings, the church offers a specific point of reference when choosing a destination.

The church’s religious history also spans several centuries: From the Reformation until 1945, it belonged to the Protestants. During renovation of the church tower and its dome in 1999, documents were discovered describing life in Dłużek from the 17th century to the 1920s. The church building and the documents offer two distinct ways of exploring the past of the place: the development of a building and records of life in the village. You can take these themes into account when planning your trip if you are interested in architectural and local history. A hotel, vacation apartment and vacation home offer different types of stays; which one suits your trip to Poland depends on your travel habits.

Castle, manor house and village buildings

Dłużek Castle was built in the 17th century and is located on the edge of a landscape park dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. Cross vaults and barrel vaults with lunettes have been preserved in the oldest rooms on the ground floor. These vaults offer a specific insight into the architectural styles of the castle rooms. Another historical figure is connected with Dłużek: Augusta Viktoria was born in the manor house in Dłużek on October 22, 1858. She was the daughter of the reigning Duke Friedrich Christian August of Schleswig-Holstein and later became the wife of Wilhelm II, the German emperor. The manor house and the castle are distinguished as the respective named locations in her history.

The village’s buildings also include farm buildings from the early 19th century: a barn with a mansard roof, a stable with a gabled roof and a granary, also covered with a gabled roof. The farmyard also contains a lamus, a storage building dating from the late 19th century. Another example is a single-story, masonry four-family house from the mid-19th century. More than 30 houses in Dłużek date from the 19th century; some were built as early as the beginning of that century. During a stay, visitors interested in historic architecture can therefore find several different types of buildings relevant to the village’s history, in addition to the church and castle.
