Culture and history
Dobrzyń was first mentioned in 1417 under the name Doberwys. Historical names recorded for Dobrzyń include Dabrawiss (1420), Dobirwiss (1421), Dobrwuss (1424), Doberwitz (1506), Doberwes (1509), Dobris (1510), Doberus (1517), Dobritsch (1670), and Dobersch (1785).
At the beginning of the 15th century, Dobrzyń belonged to the von Haugwitz family; in 1427, it became the property of Nickel von Kottwitz. In the northwestern part of Dobrzyń, remains of a palace and park complex as well as remnants of utility buildings have been preserved.
Nature
The protected group of trees “ZA KOMINEM” is listed as a natural monument in Dobrzyń. It comprises small-leaved lindens, pedunculate oaks, European beeches, wych elms, European ashes, and Norway maples. The group of trees grows in a park in Dobrzyń behind a tall chimney.
Cycling
Dobrzyń has a monument commemorating the soldiers of the 2nd Polish Army. It is located 0.76 km after entering Dobrzyń, on the right beside a paved cycle route. A published cycle route to Sobolice begins in Dobrzyń.
Geographical setting
The wider regional area includes the Muskau Arch, which covers a total area of 18,200 ha. It was formed mainly due to the terrain of a large horseshoe-shaped terminal moraine.
