Hillfort, town plan and willow weaving

Trzciel is home to a medieval hillfort dating from the mid-13th century. Its historic character is also reflected in the urban layout, which is considered one of the area’s significant historic cultural assets. Both features draw attention to the town’s history: the hillfort provides a specific link to the medieval period, while the layout concerns the structure of the town.

Willow weaving is another hallmark of Trzciel. For centuries, the surrounding area has been and remains characterised by abundant stands of wild willow, whose wood is used as a material for wickerwork. The two route descriptions have different focuses: one follows the edge of the Obra Valley to a named destination, while the other connects to Pszczew and runs alongside three lakes.

The cycling routes can also be distinguished by their sequences of destinations. Red Cycling Route I runs from the Czarna Droga Nature Reserve via Brójce, Chociszewo and Jasieniec to Trzciel. Blue Cycling Route I starts at Lake Konin and runs via Trzciel and Lutol Mokry to the road to Dąbrówka Wielkopolska. Green Cycling Route I runs from the bridge over the Obra near Rybojady via Rybojady to Trzciel. The named places and endpoints can help you consider each route, without treating them as interchangeable.

The Obra kayaking route is another option for a trip on the water. Paddlers can stop in Trzciel, visit the town and buy supplies for the rest of their journey. Thus, as well as routes on land, the described route includes a stop in town and the opportunity to stock up before continuing.

The landscape around Trzciel

The “Rybojady” Nature Reserve lies 4 km northwest of Trzciel and protects one of the largest peat bogs in the Lubusz Lakeland. This nearby landscape adds to the routes that start directly in Trzciel or pass through the town. Together with the recreational landscape of lakes and forests, it offers a choice of nature trail, hiking trail, cycling route and kayaking trip—each with its own named destinations and points of interest.
