Mermet is situated on Lake Długie, in the southern part of the Lubichowo municipality and within the Tuchola Forest landscape. As a typical forest settlement, the village therefore brings together two clear points of reference when choosing your destination: the forest as a wider landscape and the lake right beside the village. Wda and Ocypel are 3 km away; the wetlands around Mermet are also rich in cranberries. Alongside the forest and lake, a distinctive fruit and named destinations in the surrounding area also play a role. Mermet is one of the smaller places with tourist centres in the Lubichowo area. For a holiday in Poland, this gives the place a distinctive profile shaped by landscape, water and local themes.

The lake and watercourse as different points of reference

The Święta Struga flows through Lake Długie, joins the Wda and is suitable for canoeing. This gives Mermet’s connection to water two specific aspects: the lake defines its location, while the Struga is also associated with a named activity. This is more useful when choosing a trip than a general description as a “place by the water”: you can distinguish a destination with a general connection to a lake from one where a specific watercourse is explicitly suitable for canoeing. The distance to Wda and Ocypel adds further named places in the surrounding area to help you get your bearings.

Cranberries in the landscape and local cuisine

Cranberries connect the wetlands around Mermet, which are rich in them, with the village’s culinary profile. Mermet is known for its cranberry specialties: Żurawinówka po mermecku, healing cranberry juice in the Mermet style, Mermet cranberry galarett and a Mermet cranberry accompaniment to meat dishes. The examples range from a drink and juice to galarett and a savoury accompaniment. Żurawinówka po mermecku is considered a signature product of Dagmara Mazurek from Mermet. If you give regional food culture weight alongside landscape, cranberries offer a tangible way to explore the village.

Kociewie in local cultural life

The Koło Gospodyń Wiejskich in Mermet is part of the village’s cultural life. The association has been active since 12 December 2018 and takes part with great commitment in numerous Kociewie events. Descriptions from 2021 and 2022 classify the Festyn Mermeckiej Żurawinówki as an annual village festival for Mermet residents. Its focus on residents is part of this description. If you want to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates in advance. The association and the village festival show two different aspects of the cultural connection: participation in regional events and a festival tradition specifically associated with Mermet.

Which themes suit your choice of destination?

When comparing Mermet with other holiday destinations in Poland, one specific question arises: does the connection to the lake and forest, together with the watercourse suitable for canoeing, matter most to you, or are you particularly interested in the link between cranberries and Kociewie culture? These themes address different aspects of a stay. The Święta Struga represents a named activity, the specialties a Mermet flavour profile, and the Koło a connection to regional culture. This makes it possible to compare Mermet based on the aspects you actually prioritise for a holiday in Poland.
