Discover Ocypel: Hiking Trails, Forests and Summer Events
Accommodation in Ocypel
Ocypel combines practical opportunities for hiking and forest activities with summer cultural and sporting events. For trip planning, the trail network offers clear directions: the blue, 22.4-kilometre section of the Izydor Gulgowski Trail runs from Kaliska to Ocypel. Here it connects with the red Kociewie Lakes Trail, along which you can continue your hike southwards. The length of 22.4 kilometres refers to the blue section ending in Ocypel.
Hiking Trails and Forest Activities
The forests of Ocypel offer space for Nordic walking, running and cycling. Those who prefer to take their time observing nature do not need any special equipment. However, binoculars, a telescope or a magnifying glass can be useful. This lets you enjoy the forest in different ways: by being active or by taking a closer look at nature.
Mushrooms are also among the forest products found in Ocypel. Expert guidance is recommended when foraging. Foraged forest products can be eaten fresh or used in cakes and desserts. Those interested in this aspect of the area can consider it an addition to the forest activities described above.
Summer Culture and Sports
The Letni Dom Kultury in Ocypel is a series of summer open-air concerts and artistic events. They take place by the lake and in public spaces, with the forests and sunset scenery providing the backdrop. This brings cultural events together with time spent outdoors, without confining the programme to a single venue.
One of the sporting events is “Biegaj w Ocyplu – Leśne Wandry,” organised by the Stowarzyszenie Przyjaciół Ocypla. The event has attracted growing numbers of participants and spectators for years. The programme includes races for children, young people and adults, recreational distances, and courses for more experienced runners. In this way, different types of running events are part of the same programme.
The summer festival series “Lato na Kociewiu” takes place in July and August in Lubichowo, Szteklin and Ocypel. If you plan to travel during this period, you can consider Ocypel as one of the venues in the series. When planning your trip, it is also helpful to distinguish the summer cultural events from the hiking and forest activities described as available year-round.
The Lake, the Village and Its History
As part of the marina project in Ocypel, a building for water tourism, a playground, a fire pit and a car park were built. A pier was also added, with designated areas for swimming and mooring boats, kayaks and pedal boats. These features give an overview of what the project included.
One historical landmark in the area is the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a reconstruction of a chapel destroyed by the Germans in 1943. The building was constructed based on a surviving photograph, following the design of its pre-war predecessor. On 3 May 2004, Father Alfons Fonfara, parish priest of the Parish of Our Lady Queen in Ocypel, consecrated the chapel. The wooden buildings in the village of Ocypel are also among the sights in the area around Lubichowo.
Another historical landmark is at Ocypel railway station: a forgotten pre-war German Pullman-type railway carriage stands in a shaded corner of a siding. Together with the reconstructed chapel, it adds two specific aspects of local history to the nature and events described above.
If you are looking for a hotel, apartment or holiday home in Ocypel, you can start by deciding what you want your stay to focus on: the hiking trail, forest activities, summer events or an interest in local history.
