Mikołów: Old Town, Park and Botanical Diversity
Accommodation in Mikołów
Mikołów’s Old Town, historic buildings and green spaces reveal different sides of the destination. The market square is at the heart of the older urban layout; a walk through old Mikołów and the botanical garden offer further highlights. This makes history, city walks and plant collections distinct themes to consider when planning your trip.

Old Town, churches and traces of history
The Old Town has a market square with streets branching off from it. On the south side of the square, granite slabs trace the outline of the former town hall; there is also a fountain. In the wider Mikołów destination, the tenement houses on the market square date from the 18th and 19th centuries. The present-day town hall building was erected in 1872.
The Evangelical Church of St. John was built in 1861 in the neo-Gothic style, based on a design by Paul Jackisch from Bytom. Another historical trace is a conical medieval fortified settlement, which is among the city’s oldest monuments. Its origins are dated to the end of the 12th century or the first decades of the 13th century.
A walk of about 2 km through old Mikołów passes figures of knights and important city monuments and takes approximately 45 minutes. Its length and duration provide a practical guide if you want to set aside a specific block of time for this walk in your daily itinerary.
Planty and botanical diversity
Planty Mikołów is located in the city centre. In Mikołów-Mokre, the Śląski Ogród Botaniczny offers educational trails and plant collections, including ornamental trees and shrubs, heather plants, climbing plants, and waterside and aquatic plants. The two green spaces therefore offer distinct experiences: Planty is centrally located, while the botanical garden focuses on plant diversity and educational trails.
More cultural and natural sites in the wider Mikołów destination
In the wider Mikołów destination, Planty has playgrounds, a pond and the park house. The park was entered in the register of monuments of the Silesian Voivodeship in 2001. The Śląski Ogród Botaniczny is based in the Sołectwo Mokre, at the Centrum Edukacji Przyrodniczej i Ekologicznej on Sośnia Góra. Its grounds cover more than 100 hectares and extend across Sośnia Góra and part of Fiołkowa Góra.
Nature is also part of this wider destination: the valley of the Jamna River is a nature reserve within Mikołów, home to many rare protected species. Leśne Pogotowie dla Zwierząt offers visits by prior arrangement. If you plan to visit, arrange it in advance.
The museum in Mikołów hosts exhibitions, meetings, lectures, historical walks and workshops about local history and the history of Upper Silesia. The Basilica of St. Wojciech is a neo-Romanesque church built between 1843 and 1861. Its interior is also designed in the neo-Romanesque style; it features a main altar dedicated to St. Wojciech and side altars dedicated to Our Lady of Mikołów and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
For music lovers, the international Mikołowskie Dni Muzyki festival is another cultural event to consider: it has been held in Mikołów since 1991, and its 35th edition is scheduled for spring 2027. The Mikołowskie Jarmarki Staroci takes place on the market square on the first Sunday of every month. If a particular event date is important to your trip, check the latest announcement in advance.
In Paniowy, now part of Mikołów, the wooden Church of Saints Peter and Paul stands on the Silesian Wooden Architecture Trail. The church dates from the 18th century and has three Baroque domes. These buildings in Paniowy add another architectural theme to the wider destination, complementing the stone churches and the Old Town.
