Myszków: Discover Cycling Routes and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Myszków
Several named cycling and hiking routes pass through Myszków or begin there. In the wider context of Myszkowski County, there are also a protected landscape area, caves and a reservoir. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing the specific routes through Myszków from destinations elsewhere in the county. This will help you decide whether to focus on a marked trail, architectural history or nature.
Cycling Routes with Different Profiles
The 70 km Smy-102n cycling route is called “na rowerze szlakiem hutnictwa” (cycling along the ironworks trail). The 83 km Smy-101s is called “na rowerze szlakiem zamków” (cycling along the castles trail) and runs, among other places, through Myszków, Rzędkowice, Podlesice, Hucisko, Bobolice, Mirów, Łutowiec, Brzeziny, Czatachowa, Przewodziszowice, Leśniów, Żarki, Żarki Letnisko, Miłość, Koziegłowy, Huta Szklana, Pińczyce and Nowa Wioska, ending at the market square in Siewierz. Its length and the explicitly listed places provide a concrete basis for comparing the routes. The length and signage of Smy-101s may change when the route is modified; check the current route before setting out.
The red-marked “Orlich Gniazd” (Eagle’s Nests) Jura Cycling Route connects Kraków and Częstochowa and passes through Myszkowski County via Zdów, Bobolice, Mirów, Niegowa, Moczydło, Przewodziszowice, Czatachowa, Ostrężnik, Suliszowice and Zrębiec. Unlike the three Smy routes, it is described as a link between Kraków and Częstochowa. Its route and markings may change when the route is modified, so check the current route in advance for this ride too.
Hiking and Nature in Myszkowski County
The green-marked Cz-1003 hiking trail begins at the market square in Myszków-Mrzygłód and runs through Kręciwilk, Gruchla, Światowit, Góra Włodowska and Rzędkowice to Góra Zborów. Myszkowski County as a whole has around 110 km of hiking trails and more than 200 km of cycling and hiking routes. These figures apply to the county, not just Myszków; by contrast, the specific route of Cz-1003 can be traced by its starting point, intermediate places and destination.
Part of Myszkowski County lies within the “Orlich Gniazd” Landscape Park. In the Warta River valley near Nowa Wieś Żarecka, an almost natural biocenotic system has been preserved, with numerous rare and protected plant species. Brzozowa Cave near Trzebniów is one of the longest caves in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland; Wierna Cave, in the municipality of Niegowa, is among the largest caves in the upland. These natural features are in the wider county area and complement the marked routes with ecological and geological perspectives.
Zalew Porajski is also located in the municipality of Poraj, within Myszkowski County. The reservoir was created by damming the Warta River; conditions there are favorable for sailing and fishing. If these activities influence your travel plans, check in advance with individual operators for current offers.
Culture and History
The Sanctuary of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Myszków–Mrzygłód was built between 1653 and 1662 and is listed in the registers of immovable and archaeological monuments. It is visited by pilgrims from Częstochowa and Zagłębie, as well as by several religious communities. Alongside the routes, it gives Myszków a specific point of reference for sacred architectural history.
The Warsaw–Vienna railway line was built in the mid-19th century, and the Myszków railway station complex is associated with it. Further afield in Myszkowski County, the sanctuary in Leśniów offers another art-historical point of interest: it houses a wooden Madonna and Child, about 70 cm tall, dating from the 14th century and made in the style of the so-called Beautiful Madonnas. The statue is in the Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose main building was erected in the mid-16th century.
The Leśniowska Noah’s Ark at the Pauline monastery in Żarki-Leśniów is home to kangaroos, ostriches, peacocks and meerkats, among other animals. As the animal collection may change, check which animals are currently on view before visiting.
