Kayaking on the Krutynia
The section of the Krutynia kayaking route in the Masurian Landscape Park starts in Spychowo. Just beyond the DK59 national road bridge, you can launch a kayak from the left bank of the river. From Spychowo, the Krutynia section follows the Spychowska Struga, passes under two wooden bridges for pedestrians and cyclists, and heads towards Lake Zdrużno. This describes a specific launch point and the onward route towards the lake.
The Krutynia water route also includes a canoe section from Spychowo to Krutyń. If you are planning days on the water, you can distinguish this named section from the trails on land. The information on the starting point and route provides different reference points: the start of the kayaking-route section in Spychowo, the Spychowska Struga and the direction towards Lake Zdrużno, as well as the canoe section to Krutyń.
Educational Trail and Routes Through the Forest and Surrounding Area
The “Jezioro Ciche” educational trail is accessible to everyone and follows comfortable paths and trails. It starts at the Nadleśnictwo Spychowo (Spychowo Forest District) office on Lake Spychowskie. Facilities along the trail include benches and waste bins. At Lake Ciche, there is the “Eko-Oczko” shelter with a fire pit; there is also a pier and an observation hide. A boardwalk crosses a marsh. These designated stops set this trail apart from the waterways and cycling route described above.
The green Szlak Ostatniego Niedźwiedzia (Last Bear Trail) starts and ends at the cemetery in Spychowo. Along the way, it passes through Spychowo and Niedźwiedzi Kąt, through the “Pupy” nature reserve, and by the “Jezioro Ciche” educational trail. If you would like to explore on foot, the Szlak Fortyfikacji Szczycieńskiej Pozycji Leśnej (Szczytno Forest Defensive Line Trail) is also nearby. This hiking trail starts at the beach in Połom near Spychowo, is 4.8 km long, and leads to historic fortifications dating from 1901 to 1944. The Szlak im. Melchiora Wańkowicza also passes through Spychowo.
Culture and Places to Visit
Spychowo is home to a Neo-Gothic church dating from 1903. You can visit the Muzeum Leśne (Forest Museum) with a member of staff from the Nadleśnictwo Spychowo; you need to contact them in advance. These two destinations add cultural experiences in the village to the trails and waterways.
