The branch church: floor plan and structural elements
The small, single-nave branch church of St. John the Baptist is a stone-and-brick building dating from the 13th and 17th centuries. Its rectangular floor plan is oriented east; the altar also faces east, and there is no separate presbytery. The nave is built of stone. A two-storey tower with a bell stands on the western side, with a half-timbered upper storey. The building can therefore be considered from different perspectives: its floor plan and orientation describe its alignment, while the nave and tower are distinct structural elements, each with a specified building material.
Landforms by the Błotnica Valley
The church stands on a slight rise. This is distinct from the rampart-shaped kame beside the Błotnica Valley, which runs north to south. It is 900 m long and 270 m wide on average; its relative height is up to 25 m. Almost the entire landform is wooded. Its length and average width indicate its extent, while its relative height describes its vertical dimension. Together with its north–south orientation and woodland, these details provide a more complete picture of this elongated landform.
Pond and river course
A pond of about 1 ha lies in the northern part of Nieżyn. Its approximate area adds a different kind of measurement to the description than the kame’s length and width: here the subject is a body of water, while there it is an elongated landform. Nearby, the Błotnica flows in two channels between Mącznik and Nieżyn; brown trout and sea trout live in it.
