Żukowo: Hotels and Accommodation

The parish church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Żukowo is Gothic. It was consecrated on 7 April 1946 and contains an altar, a pulpit and organs dating from around 1700.

Culture and History

Żukowo was established around the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries; the first mention of the place dates from 1363. Heinrich von Podewils was born here. He was finance minister at the courts of Frederick William I and Frederick the Great of Prussia.

The Żukowo lapidarium contains several gravestones of former residents. The lapidarium also includes a commemorative plaque mounted on a granite boulder for the deceased Polish and German members of the former German Żukowo parish who found their final resting place in this cemetery. The plaque bears the years 1945–1995. A chapel was built at the new Protestant cemetery in Żukowo in the 1930s, approximately 50 metres west of the church.
