Oświno – Lake, Forest and Local History

Oświno combines a landscape of lake and forest with a historic village setting. Lake Woświn and the Beach

A small, prepared beach lies on the Oświno side of Lake Woświn. The gently sloping shelf makes swimming possible there. Church and Former Manor Park

The church in Oświno was built around 1880 on a rectangular plan, using fieldstone and brick. Its date, floor plan and building materials provide concrete points of reference for placing the building in context: an approximate date, a clear geometric form and the combination of two materials. The former manor park takes you back to an earlier period. It was laid out at the beginning of the 19th century and originally covered four hectares. The park was therefore created several decades before the church.

The park retains old trees: Abies concolor, Fagus sylvatica ‘Atropurpureum’, Platanus x acerifolia, Taxus baccata and Quercus robur. Thus, the park’s original design and surviving tree population are central to the grounds, while the church is defined by its architecture. Together, they offer different cultural and historical perspectives on Oświno.

Cemetery Grounds in the Village Landscape

The second cemetery was established in the first half of the 19th century on the southern edge of the village and covers about 0.3 hectares. By contrast, the churchyard is a quadrangle of about 0.2 hectares, with the church standing at its center. The location, shape and size give each site its own point of reference: here, the southern edge of the village; there, the church at the center of the churchyard. To understand these sites, therefore, it is important to consider not only when they were established, but also their design and location in the village.

For the municipal cemetery in Oświno, the municipal regulations published in July 2023 state that visitors have access around the clock, throughout the year. Check the current visiting rules before your visit. The measurements also show the difference in scale: the manor park originally covered four hectares, while the two cemetery grounds cover about 0.3 and 0.2 hectares, respectively. This also helps distinguish the park from the smaller cemetery sites in terms of area.
