Januszkowo combines tangible links to nature with a local history connected to several people and buildings. The wider Żniński travel destination also includes places in the municipality of Żnin and the surrounding region. This lets you decide whether your trip will focus mainly on the heritage sites in Januszkowo or also include museums, archaeology and cycling in the region.
English Oaks in the Village Park
Two English oaks stand in Januszkowo village park, with trunk circumferences of 350 and 270 centimetres. The trees are among the 20 natural monuments in the municipality of Żnin, designated by an ordinance of the Bydgoszcz Voivode. Their different measurements give each oak its own profile: one has a circumference of 350 centimetres, the other 270 centimetres. Januszkowo thus offers a tangible connection with nature that pairs well with local cultural themes.
Klemens Janicki and Historic Buildings
Klemens Janicki was the son of a farmer from Januszkowo near Żnin. On 11 September 2009, he became the namesake of the school in his home village. The school building at Januszkowo 20 dates from the early 20th century. The connection between the person and the school gives local history a personal dimension, while the building’s date adds a distinct point of reference in time.
Two houses also have specific construction dates on record: the house at Januszkowo 53 dates from 1921, and the house at Januszkowo 13 from 1935. Together with the school building, they offer different points of reference for exploring the history of the village. The records range from one person’s life story to buildings from the early and mid-20th century, without implying that they share a common history of origin.
In the Wider Żniński Travel Destination
The municipality of Żnin belongs to the historical and ethnographic region of Pałuki, which lies on the Piast Trail. Within the municipality, the ruins of a defensive castle can be found in Wenecja near Żnin. It was built in 1390, in the 14th century. This regional historic site adds another historical theme to Januszkowo’s specific local points of interest, but it remains a destination in the municipality and is not a feature of the village park.
Museums in Żnin also broaden the cultural offerings of the wider Żniński travel destination. The Museum of Motorboating displays engines, propellers, medals, photographs, posters and programmes from motorboating events in Żnin and around the world. The Pałuki Land Museum, housed in its former town hall, presents two permanent exhibitions: “Ethnography,” about everyday life in Pałuki around the turn of the 20th century, and “The History of Printing in Żnin.” The exhibits cover different themes, from motorboating to everyday life and printing history.
