It begins on Płowiecka Street, at the site of an early medieval fortified settlement originally located between the Parsęta and Leśnica rivers. Two unmarked hiking trails offer different routes. The trail around Białogard leads from the town through Rościno, Lulewice, Żelimucha, Kościernica, Pomianowo, Dargikowo and Klępino Białogardzkie, before returning to Białogard; it can be walked in one day. Another trail follows the embankment of the former narrow-gauge railway via Kisielice, Łęczno, Nasutowo, Zagórze and Podwilcze to Rarwino. This hiking trail is 20 kilometres long. The circular route and the trail to Rarwino can therefore be distinguished by their routes and the stated timeframe or length.
City Walls and Medieval History
The surviving remains of medieval fortifications in Białogard include the Brama Wysoka and shell towers. Together, the remnants of the walls are an example of defensive structures typical of a medium-sized Pomeranian town. The Brama Wysoka, also known as the Połczyńska Gate, was built together with the city walls at the beginning of the 14th century.
