Church History Across Several Eras

The Gothic church in Przybiernów dates from 1554. Following extensive restoration in 1679, medieval perimeter walls were preserved; the tower also dates from that year. The parish Church of the Assumption of Mary is listed both in the register of monuments and in the heritage list. This means that several aspects of the town’s history come together in this building: Gothic architecture, older sections of wall and later structural alterations.

The furnishings also include items from different centuries. The church contains a Baroque altar dating from 1712 to 1713 and a Gothic Madonna and Child from the 14th century. Those interested in religious buildings will find not just one historic date here, but several layers of history. Together with the half-timbered extension, the furnishings and structural features add to the picture of the church, whose history cannot be reduced to a single era.

Lake and Water Activities

Nearby Lake Przybiernowskie covers almost 88.9 hectares. It is up to 5.3 metres deep and has a 4,675-metre shoreline. Its area, maximum depth and shoreline length each offer a different indication of the scale of this body of water. If a waterscape is among your travel interests, you can consider the lake as a focus in its own right alongside the town’s historic buildings.

The Wołczenica and Gowienica rivers are separate from the lake: they flow along the edge of Przybiernów municipality and offer opportunities for canoeing. The seasonal “JAMA” bathing beach is in Przybiernów. Check whether it will be open at the time of your trip.

Mill and Local Traditions

A post mill dating from 1837 is another historic landmark in Przybiernów. Together with the church, it shows that the town’s history is not told through religious architecture alone. The mill adds a different type of building and its own date to the story of the area’s architectural history. Community activities have also included beekeeping workshops. In 2024, KGW Przybiernów held these workshops for residents and visitors from neighbouring towns. With guidance from Agnieszka and Jarosław Hoffmann of Pasieka Hoffmann, participants learned about beekeeping and made beeswax candles themselves. The harvest festival is a long-standing local tradition organised by Przybiernów municipality and the Gminne Centrum Kultury. On 31 August 2019, Dożynki Gminne was held at the Przybiernów sports stadium.
